In addition to all the critical chiropractic care you are already providing to your patients you   may also want to volunteer to help your entire community in other important ways during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are interested in donating your time and talents to relief efforts please contact the MAC at (517) 367-2225 or info@chiromi.com so we can provide additional information and assistance.

The COVID-19 pandemic is an opportunity for chiropractors to work hand-in-hand with other essential health care providers in an effort to ease the crisis. Together, we can fight the pandemic and save lives. There are many opportunities for you to get involved.

Local Efforts
Chiropractors are an integral part of their communities. As such, consider volunteering in your local community during the COVID-19 pandemic. When doing so, however, be sure to follow social distancing guidelines and all other federal, state, and local safety practices. Examples could include:

  • Providing chiropractic care to staff at local hospitals who can benefit from adjustments and other physical medicine treatments. This includes not only other physicians, but nurses, EMTs, orderlies, and other caregivers. Contact the MAC at (517) 367-2225 or info@chiromi.com if you are interested in helping in this way. We may be able to assist you.
  • Working with your place of worship or local schools to assist with their volunteer activities. Other local organizations, such as the Area Agency on Aging, VFW, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Moose or Elks Lodge, etc., may also have volunteer opportunities available.
  • Sending needed supplies to organizations such as local domestic violence agencies, homeless shelters, etc., that may need gloves, masks, sanitizer, etc., for food service or medical clinics they run.
  • Making donations of cash to local food banks and other local charities.

Statewide Coordinated Volunteer Efforts
The State of Michigan is calling on everyone to do their part to help during this crisis, and health care professionals who can volunteer their expertise are no exception. The State has set up a website for those who wish to volunteer: www.michigan.gov/fightcovid19.

The site is organized into several different sections, depending on how you want to volunteer:

  1. Medical. Volunteers complete a survey regarding their experience and qualifications. Chiropractors are one of the physician groups listed. It appears that the experience they are looking for is very medical in nature (dialysis, ventilators, intubation, etc.), but one of the care types listed is “Ambulatory Care.” They then ask for more details. Chiropractors could list that they are looking to provide care not only for COVID-19 patients themselves, but for health care providers and workers who are working impossible hours in high-stress positions who could benefit from chiropractic care.
  2. Public Health Volunteer: Looking for individuals with a background in public health, health care fields, or community organizing.
  3. Community Volunteers: The Michigan COVID-19 Volunteer Team, through the state’s lead agency for volunteerism, the Michigan Community Service Commission, assists in such efforts as blood drives, food banks, etc.
  4. Volunteers to Help Older Adults: Services could include Meals on Wheels, helping to prepare food packages, wellness checks, lawn care and maintenance, etc.
  5. Donations: The State of Michigan is collecting and managing financial, material and in-kind donations to be used to meet the most pressing needs of Michigan residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The material donations most needed at this time include hospital gowns, ventilators, sanitizer (Hand / Wipe), gloves, surgical masks, masks N95-N100, and no-touch thermometers
  6. Blood Donations: Contact the Red Cross at https://www.redcross.org/.

Remember, you can also volunteer to provide care for volunteers in these individual groups. By keeping Michigan’s volunteer forces in the best possible condition while they push their limits, you are making a real impact on your community and your state.
