State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-42 Extends “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Order

This afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended the state’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order until May 1, 2020. Her original order, which was issued on March 24th, was set to expire at 11:59pm on Monday. April 13th. Executive Order 2020-42 still directs all Michigan businesses to temporarily suspend in-person operations unless they are “necessary to sustain or protect life.”

Also, on Tuesday, the Michigan Legislature voted to extend Michigan's state of emergency declaration 23 days, through April 30, 2020. Governor Whitmer had originally asked the legislature for a 70-day extension. The State of Emergency Declaration and Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order are not the same, necessitating the Governor’s action today.

Stay tuned for further information after Executive Order 2020-42 has been fully analyzed and vetted by our legal and legislative advisors.
